Ashley (S7), the staff member leading the library review, presented the list of books to be approved for district libraries and explained the SB 13 compliance process.
"So every single book in our library has to be approved according to SB 13," Ashley said, describing use of Goodreads and Junior Library Guild reviews and a teacher review process for title selection. She explained the district’s parental‑permission options: full checkout as usual, no checkout, or a limited opt‑out list parents can submit to restrict specific titles for their child.
Ashley said Destiny (the library catalog) will send an email when a student checks out a book, once technology integration is complete; until then, staff will handle notifications manually. The presenter emphasized that young‑adult titles are restricted to juniors and seniors unless a parent explicitly allows broader access and that the district will flag student accounts to prevent restricted checkouts.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about how parents submit opt‑out lists and the cataloging process; staff said the district is working with technology to ensure flags and email notifications work automatically going forward.
