Dickinson Council adopts ordinance banning certain gambling devices on second reading

The Dickinson City Council voted unanimously April 28 to adopt Ordinance XXX-2026, amending Chapter 12 of the Dickinson Code of Ordinances to add section 12-5, “Gambling Devices Prohibited.” The motion to approve on second reading passed 7-0.
Ann Murski, owner of the Blue Room Bar on Highway 3, told the council the proposed ban on eight‑liner machines would affect bar revenue, which she said is supported by food and beverage sales, pool and dart tournaments, and music. She requested that, if the ban proceeds, existing businesses be allowed to continue operating permitted machines through the end of their current permit periods. Council discussed a clarification of the law and the ordinance’s origins before voting to adopt the measure.
Kevin D. Edmonds moved the ordinance and Johnnie Simpson seconded; the final vote was recorded as seven ayes and zero nays.
