Mayor Pro Tem reassigned to public safety; Purple Heart proclamation scheduled Aug. 8

Mayor Whearley announced Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard has been reassigned as a department head of public safety and that Hamilton will hold a Purple Heart City proclamation on Aug. 8, 2026, at 1 p.m. The council was also reminded of qualifying dates Aug. 4–6 and that Second Saturday drew 21 vendors.
Mayor Patrick Whearley announced on July 13 that Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Howard has been reassigned as a department head of public safety; the mayor said Councilor Farley’s assignment will take place at a later time. Whearley also told the council that qualifying for office will take place August 4–6, 2026.
The council announced a proclamation recognizing Hamilton as a Purple Heart City/Community; the event is scheduled for August 8, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. City Manager Rhett Wade reported that the city’s "Second Saturday" program continues to grow and that the most recent event featured 21 vendors. Wade also said the city has taken over the Harris County Public Library’s Truck or Treat event and is moving forward with planning.
