West Point's Planning Commission on March 12 approved a preliminary plat to split the Horizon Junior High property into two lots, separating the existing school site from an adjacent field that will become a city-owned park.
Staff explained the applicant is the Davis School District and that the subdivision is largely procedural: construction or site improvements have been completed and the plat simply formalizes ownership boundaries. According to staff, the park portion is finished with sod and sprinklers and the arrangement will be governed by an interlocal agreement for shared use of facilities. Commissioner Ryan Hymas moved to approve the two-lot preliminary plat; Commissioner Kyle Norton seconded and the motion carried with all commissioners voting aye.
Commissioner Joe Taylor commented that he had attended Junior Jazz at the facility and described the junior high as "a very impressive facility" for the city. The approval clarifies ownership so the City can accept and maintain the park area.
