The Tuckahoe Zoning Board on Feb. 11 heard a request to construct a small portico at 2 Henry Street that would encroach 2 feet into the village’s required 25-foot front-yard setback.
David Goessl, representing the property owner, told the board the portico would measure 7 feet wide and 3.5 feet deep and include concrete stairs and a landing to provide shelter and safer footing during snow and ice. "This portico would provide a safe shelter and landing during the snow and ice weather," the minutes state, and the applicant added it would also help keep deliveries dry.
Chairman Tom Ringwald said the submitted plans would be an improvement and noted the requested setback relief represented a very small percentage of the required setback. The board opened the public hearing; no members of the public spoke. By unanimous vote the board voted to keep the public hearing open for a future meeting rather than decide the variance at this session.
No final action on the variance was recorded; the board requested further consideration and left the hearing open to accept any additional materials or comments.
