Clifton ISD board approves new library materials under SB 13 requirement

Superintendent Andy Ball reminded the Clifton ISD Board that, under SB 13, all new library materials must be approved by the board before purchase or addition to school libraries. The board voted to approve the proposed list of library materials during the March 30 meeting.
"Due to SB 13, all new library materials must be approved by the Board before being purchased or added to a library," Ball said in his presentation to trustees. The motion to approve the proposed list was made by Alex Montes, seconded by Heather Willmann, and passed with six yea votes and one absence.
Why it matters: SB 13 places local review and approval responsibility on boards for new library acquisitions; trustees’ approval here authorizes staff to proceed with purchases on the approved list.
What happens next: District staff will proceed with acquiring approved materials per board authorization and in accordance with district procurement policies.
