L & L Auto Wash proposes 192" x 24" sign at 185 Marbledale Road; board asks for redesign and variance for logo

Ms. Mayra Aseng of Awnings and Signs presented an application for a new sign on behalf of the business owner of L & L Auto Wash at 185 Marbledale Road. According to the application record, the proposed sign measures 192 inches by 24 inches; the letters for 'Hand Car Wash' are white and the letters for 'Window Tint' are gold, with the total letter height at 18 inches and a logo that measures 20 by 24 inches.
Member Barbara Nieminen told the board the sign, as designed, functions as a descriptive listing rather than displaying the business name, and suggested making 'L & L Auto Wash' the dominant text. Nieminen also stated the logo exceeds the size allowed by code and that the board would need to grant a variance for the logo. Member David Ringler offered an alternative, suggesting placing the compounding machines on either side of the business name and removing the logo.
The board advised the applicant to return at the next meeting with two different renderings reflecting the suggested changes (for example, enlarging the business name and limiting descriptive text to approximately 3-inch letters or using wording such as 'Detailing & Tints Services'). The board indicated it would consider a variance application for the oversized logo if formally requested. The applicant was given the next meeting date, March 2, 2026, to submit revised materials.
