Wastewater plant upgrades advance; city separates equipment procurement to save costs

Anubis Engineering updated the council on the wastewater treatment plant upgrade program, reporting that the aeration equipment package has been advertised and awarded and that submittal review is underway. Josh Berryhill said the firm has procured equipment packages first to control costs and lead times and will later advertise construction packages.
"Overall, I think we were roughly about 1,300,000 for the equipment package," Berryhill said, explaining that separating equipment procurement from construction could avoid a 10–20% contractor markup (roughly $200,000–$300,000) and preserve those funds for future projects. He said packages 2–4 (including headworks, flow equalization and disinfection) are being aligned with a second bond package while dewatering/permanent solids handling may be deferred to a third bond package because the city recently purchased emergency dewatering equipment. Staff and the consultant asked council for continued support as procurement and bidding progress.
