Tupper Lake accepts village justice resignation; Leonard Young named interim

The Village of Tupper Lake Board of Trustees on Nov. 18 formally accepted the resignation of Village Justice Christopher J. Delair effective Dec. 1, 2024 and appointed Leonard F. Young as village justice to fill the remaining one‑year term, also effective Dec. 1, 2024. The motion to accept the resignation and the subsequent appointment each carried 5‑0.
Mayor Mary Fontana thanked Delair for 13 years of service to the community and the board set Young’s salary for Jan. 1–Nov. 30, 2025 at $9,250 to reflect Young’s NYS retirement status. “Mayor Fontana took a moment to thank Mr. Delair for the past 13‑ years of service to the community as our Village Justice,” minutes state. The trustees set compensation by formal motion in executive session and then reported the vote publicly.
The appointment fills the unexpired term; the board did not specify whether Young intends to seek election to a subsequent term. The matter will remain on the board’s calendar while the village transitions court duties and notifies the public of any changes to court schedules.
