Trustees discuss budget timing, water tower meeting and EV charging grants

Treasurer Mindy Olson briefed trustees on the village budget process and said work is underway but that implementation is constrained until annual pay raises take effect May 1. Trustee Christina Butler said she is in contact with Congresswoman Miller’s office regarding capital projects grants and is assembling potential projects such as water towers and fire trucks.
President Richard Samples said he has arranged a meeting with Benton and Associates to discuss the village water tower and will report back to the board. On electric vehicle charging, Samples said it was his opinion the village "does not want to be in the electric charging business" and that private service stations are already installing chargers; Trustee Michael Preston noted that Loves and a local hotel already host EV chargers. Trustees agreed to track grant opportunities but signaled a preference for private entities to deploy and operate chargers rather than the village.
No budget ordinance or grant commitments were adopted at the Feb. 5 meeting; staff will continue budgeting work and follow up on grant possibilities.
