Chief says ladder truck out of service more than a year; board to consider replacement options

Fire Chief Richie Evans told trustees the department's ladder truck has been out of service for more than a year and that the department still needs equipment replacements. Chief Evans said he had spoken with a neighboring city's fire chief, who offered a used ladder truck priced at $250,000. He also reported a prospective buyer had offered about $43,000 for the village's current ladder truck.
Chief Evans said the lack of an operable ladder truck has had operational consequences and could negatively affect the village’s ISO rating, especially for hotels in town that may require ladder capabilities. Trustees agreed the issue should be discussed in more depth at the Committee of the Whole meeting and asked staff to research financing options, including loans and state Fire Marshal grant opportunities. No purchase decision was made at the Feb. 5 meeting.
