Coffee City Council accepts Purple Heart City proclamation

Coffee City’s council unanimously accepted a proclamation to designate the municipality a Purple Heart City during its March 10 meeting.
Mayor Marquis Castleberry read the proclamation, and veteran Eric Walter — who identified himself as junior vice commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 1515, and commander of VFW Post 7523 — spoke about his service with the U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division and the wounds he sustained in Iraq. "I would like to thank the mayor, the city council members, citizens of the City of Coffee City, and lastly, all veterans who have served our country," Walter said.
Councilmember Kevin Haughey moved to accept the proclamation; Carrie Ousley seconded and the motion carried. The council did not record any abstentions or opposing votes for this item.
