Heritage Pines OKs $19,200 pond-algae contract, cites $3,200 annual savings

The Heritage Pines Community Development District on Oct. 15 approved a $19,200 contract with Premier Lakes, Inc. for pond algae treatment, which the District Manager said will save the district about $3,200 annually compared with the previous SOLitude contract. District Manager Chuck Adams presented the proposal and said he would initiate SOLitude's 30-day termination clause so Premier Lakes could begin service on Dec. 1, 2024.
Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude sprays into the lakes; Adams said SOLitude uses "a copper-based product" and that the brief odor residents sometimes notice is a product of algae degasification. On a motion by Michael Walsh, seconded by Carol Vaughan, the Board voted unanimously to approve the Premier Lakes proposal. Adams said he would notify SOLitude and begin the vendor transition per the contract timelines.
