The Board approved a $375,232 county contribution Aug. 11 as the third amendment to an intergovernmental agreement with the Town of Castle Rock to extend wastewater collection and treatment services along the Highway 85 corridor.
Deputy County Manager Dan Avery said the amendment funds design for a force-main extension that will deliver wastewater from a lift station in Sedalia to the Plum Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Castle Rock. Avery described the overarching program as a roughly $19,000,000 project, funded primarily by American Rescue Plan Act funds, with additional construction funds anticipated from congressionally directed spending and partner contributions including CORE and Douglas County.
Commissioners discussed the human impacts of expanding wastewater services on the Highway 85 corridor — enabling service to existing residents, supporting redevelopment where infrastructure is lacking, and creating conditions for future projects that will not overload resources. The board moved, seconded and approved the amendment unanimously.
