Monahans approves charging off $16,711.52 in delinquent utility accounts

City Manager Rex M. Thee told the Monahans City Council that a list of utility accounts from Oct. 1, 2022, to Sept. 30, 2023, were deemed uncollectible and recommended they be charged off in keeping with public funds auditing best practices. "These are uncollectible accounts and per recommendation of public funds auditing best practices, need to be charged off," Thee said during his briefing. The council approved Resolution No. 2026-007 by motion of Councilman Jeppie S. Wilson Jr., seconded by Councilman Calvin Carrell. The resolution declares the delinquent accounts uncollectible in the amount of $16,711.52, as listed, and the motion carried with Council Members Stava, Wilson, Carrell and Valenzuela voting "Aye"; Richard Hawkins was absent.
The resolution authorized staff action consistent with accounting practice to remove those accounts from active receivables; the minutes do not record any additional conditions or a requirement for further collection efforts. The City Secretary's office will record the charged-off accounts as described in the attached list referenced in the resolution.
