Commissioners approve film incentive for barbecue-production 'The Pit of Washington'

"They will be using Homestead for 3 weeks straight, 300 room nights at the homestead, and 1000 room nights throughout Washington County," McMichael said, describing an estimated economic impact in the low millions and a plan to pay incentive funds post-production after verifying spend and room-night commitments. The county's policy was described as reimbursing funds after the production demonstrated the agreed local economic activity.
Commissioners emphasized the return on investment for a roughly $100,000 incentive and approved Resolution R-2026-3737 to authorize use of transient-room-tax funds for the agreement. The motion passed by voice vote; the resolution requires the production to document room-night usage and related economic impact before reimbursement.
