Council approves 6-month trial letting golf-course maintenance start at 6:30 a.m.

Lakeway's City Council on Monday unanimously approved a six‑month trial allowing golf-course maintenance crews to begin operations at 6:30 a.m., after council members debated whether an earlier pilot had been intended only for summer months.

Director Carr, the city's code official, told council the ordinance amendment removes a seasonal May–Sept restriction and adds a limited exception: "I, the code official, may grant an early start time of 6AM for up to 6 days per year for no more than 3 consecutive days," he said, noting the request came from golf‑course representatives who host member‑guest tournaments.

Several council members said they had understood the earlier pilot to have been seasonal. Council member Sherman said residents had expected the shorter summer schedule and warned that an all‑year change might reach people who had not known about the trial. Council member Ford proposed the compromise that passed: extend the 6:30 a.m. start for six months and require staff to report back for review in May; the motion also declined to permit 6:00 a.m. starts as a general rule.

Council discussed guardrails for the trial — including a complaint‑trigger to return the matter for council review — and suggested possible thresholds such as two or three substantiated complaints per course in a quarter. Mayor Pro Tem Aaron said he favored a reporting requirement and a trigger point rather than immediate revocation.

The motion was made by Council member Ford and seconded on the record; council voted to approve the six‑month trial unanimously.
