Washington County says final general-obligation bond is paid off

County Clerk-Auditor Ryan Sullivan told the Washington County Board of Commissioners that the county recently made the final payment on its last general-obligation bond and has ceased collecting the associated property tax. Sullivan said other sales-tax-backed obligations remain, tied to county-leased buildings such as DMV and driver-license facilities.
Sullivan noted the county's low overall debt position and observed that "In 10 years, in 10 years we would be debt free if we weren't to issue any more debt." Commissioners congratulated staff on the fiscal milestone during brief discussion.
