District outlines parent‑dropoff and bus‑loop plans to keep Highway 20 clear

Addressing a common neighborhood concern, JD Thompson explained how the new campus designs will manage arrival and dismissal traffic so parents do not queue on Highway 20. "The plan now would be if you're eastbound on Highway 20, you'd turn right at the blinking light and then go on Kelly Smith School Road and then enter a parent drop off loop there," Thompson said.
Thompson described internal holding lanes, parent drop zones and exits routed to Round Lake Road so the public roadway is not used as a stacking lane. He said the design aims to get all traffic onto district property before unloading children and that, depending on the time of day, short adjustments to flow may be possible to reduce congestion.
Superintendent Searcy and the contractor also emphasized that the additional acreage purchased for the Palatka site creates space to reduce stacking and improve circulation, mitigating a previously congested intersection near the school.
