Council approves code cleanup to rename committees, keeps cemetery oversight in citizen committee

"The difference between the biggest difference in option 1 and option 2 is option 2 eliminates the cemetery committee and rolls those responsibilities into the public works committee," George said, urging the council to preserve a separate cemetery committee for citizen oversight. The council seconded the motion, discussed clarifying replacements for references to committees and department directors, and then approved Option 1 by roll call.
Councilors noted the code amendments are largely editorial — replacing committee names where appropriate — and said sections that do not reference committees were left unchanged. The ordinance was moved forward as the committee recommended Option 1 with staff clarifications; recorded votes were taken during the roll call that followed the motion.
