Greenway projects paused after storm; design work may resume but funding gaps remain

Thomas Gull, principal park planner, told the advisory board that all three locally administered greenway projects run along streams and were variably impacted by the storm. He said NCDOT suggested pausing locally administered greenway work early in the response but later indicated design work could resume; Gull warned the projects will require additional scope and money to redesign flooded alignments and resurvey affected sections.
Gull said the county is negotiating with consultants to identify additional scope and has 'roundabout numbers' that in some segments reach six figures. He said the county has begun work to secure funding for the added scope but cautioned that timelines will shift while coordination with state partners and contractors continues.
