Buncombe County parks director: 'There is not 1 staff member' spared from hurricane response

Allison Banks, director for Buncombe County Parks and Recreation, told the advisory board the department shifted fully into emergency operations after the hurricane. "There is not 1 staff member who did not get pulled from their current position and get put into an essential services," she said, describing work that ranged from debris removal to running water-and-food distribution warehouses.
Banks said staff worked at comfort-care sites that provided showers and laundry, and that many employees remain active in recovery. The department has been coordinating FEMA site assessments and other partners as it transitions from response to rebuilding, and Banks urged the advisory board to expect updates as assessments and funding determinations move forward.
