Consultant outlines sewer alternatives for Campobello, including grinder-pump systems and package plants

At the July 13 regular meeting the council discussed long-term sewer planning and a recent visit to Honea Path to evaluate comparable infrastructure. Ryan Barrick of Covalen, Inc., outlined several alternatives under consideration: continued discussions with the Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District (SSSD) about accepting Campobello wastewater; potential low-pressure sewer collection systems using individual grinder pumps; evaluation of package treatment plants that could be contracted; assessing improvements to the Campobello-Gramling School lagoon to increase treatment capacity; and the possibility of extending low-pressure sewer along Highway 357 to connect with Lyman's available treatment capacity.
Barrick stressed each option presents different costs and infrastructure requirements and that additional analysis with regional partners and consultants is needed to determine the most feasible and cost-effective approach. Council asked staff to continue discussions with consultants and regional partners and to explore cost-effective partnerships with the local school district.
