Staff said Caitlin Bogarde started as a new program assistant and the department is interviewing for a second position to support expanded programming. Recent events include a fall campout with about 15 families (roughly 60 attendees), a kids' fishing tournament with a 22.5‑inch bass as the large winner, and a bike rodeo involving partners such as the sheriff's office, Asheville Police Department and EMS.
The department said it is strengthening volunteer recruitment and outreach, posting volunteer opportunities on the county website and exploring ways to expand programs into rural and underserved communities. Board members also discussed scheduling site visits and a proposed Oct. 30 workshop to refine board roles and collaborative initiatives.
