Ferry Road greenway contract advances; design must resolve bridge and multi‑owner connectivity
Summary
Staff said final contract steps remain for Ferry Road but connectivity over the existing bridge and across multiple landowners (including the City of Asheville) requires design work; the project includes boardwalks, an overlook and trail connections.

Staff reported that Ferry Road projects are in final contract negotiations and that the plan includes about 1.7 miles of greenway and 1.9 miles of natural‑surface trails with boardwalk sections and an overlook. "High levels for Ferry Road includes what pieces? The Greenway and the trails," said a project manager during the update.
Project staff cautioned the most challenging portion is achieving the needed connectivity across different landowners and elevations around the existing bridge and an old water plant structure owned by the City of Asheville. Designers will prepare temporary and long‑term parking plans and work to ensure developer activities do not block future greenway connections, staff said.
