Danielle Desano Smith, who said she owns a childcare operation that serves many Ann Arbor families, told council Aug. 6 that her 33-year summer-camp program was barred from using several city pools and parks this year, including recently renovated facilities. She asked the council to explain rules that appear to exclude long-running community camps while allowing privately paid programs to run at the same sites.
Desano Smith said she is not an Ann Arbor resident but that many of her families are city residents, and she cited a $750,000 line item for park replacement and repairs while asking why access for community-run camps is limited. She asked whether other parents have raised concerns and requested clarification and outreach to affected providers.
