JCPC readies $644,000 in state funds for two‑year allocations cycle

Buncombe County staff told the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council that $644,000 the county receives from the state will be up for allocation over the coming two‑year funding cycle. Staff explained the difference between the planning, monitoring and allocations committees and said all programs — whether seeking one or two years of funding — will be monitored.
Members emphasized that programs in their first funded year are not eligible for two‑year awards and that all programs, even those with two‑year commitments, must still undergo monitoring in the following year. Staff said programs that receive poor monitoring outcomes could lose eligibility for a second year, which has led to additional RFPs in past cycles. The council discussed timelines and noted that programs will present during the RFP process so members can make informed allocations decisions.
Committee chairs urged volunteers to serve on monitoring teams and allocations hearings; members said monitoring visits typically occur in January with reports back at the February meeting. Staff said they would distribute RFP materials and the application link to council members.
