The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission ratified a contract with August Mac to continue remediation and testing at the former Bagley/Concord Cleaner site, a long-running environmental cleanup along Trail Creek.
Skyler described the property as having an underground plume that is "polluting water at this location" and explained IDEM required additional testing cycles before closeout. The contract will fund further testing and work required to finish remediation and prepare the closeout documents and a likely environmental restrictive covenant. "This is a site, with a plume... we're dealing with an underground plume that is, polluting water at this location," Skyler said.
Staff explained the contract was signed on a time-sensitive basis and the board was being asked to ratify that action under the applicable ratification statute; Tramel summarized the legal basis for ratification. The commission approved ratification of the August Mac contract with a not-to-exceed value of $158,500 by voice vote.
