Commission approves up to $100,000 reimbursement for ADA work at Pine Plaza (126 E. 4th)

The Michigan City Redevelopment Commission approved a reimbursement grant to Pine Plaza LLC to support ADA-compliant renovations at 126 East 4th Street. Skyler told the commission the funding would help finish elevator modifications that are needed to allow full use of the building’s floors.
"What's being asked of us tonight is that we would help out with the ADA accessibility of this building and help with making a modification to the elevator so that it will function all the way, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st floors, to maximize the full potential of development of this building," Skyler said, explaining the city sees economic and tax-increment benefits if the building is fully accessible. Skyler said Centier Bank (a bank tenant) is poised to occupy part of the building.
Chair moved and a commissioner seconded the resolution authorizing a reimbursement grant to Pine Plaza LLC for ADA improvements in a not-to-exceed amount of $100,000; the motion carried by voice vote. Staff and the owner will complete grant paperwork and coordinate construction and inspection as work proceeds.
