District explains new drone policy for instruction, operations and outreach

Cook cited existing uses such as time‑lapse photography of Bend High construction and aerial photos for the district website. "We've also used drones to film video for every single 1 of our schools for the website so that folks can see the school view from the sky of of each of our 33 schools," he said, noting the policy will better capture the rules and regulations the district wants for use.
The policy will be part of the consent‑for‑information packet; Cook invited questions and confirmed that permitted uses include instructional programs where drones are part of high‑school classes. The board did not take action on the policy at the meeting; the item was informational and will proceed through the district's public‑review process.
