PSGRC urges CDD partnership on 5–10 year storm surge resilience plan

PSGRC General Manager Eric Long asked the River Ridge board to support a multi-year action plan to build resilience against storms and climate change and to designate board and staff representatives to coordinate an advisory/review panel.

"He discussed a hypothetical regarding Hurricane Milton in which a topographic map showed that a 10' to 12' storm surge could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded," the minutes record. Long said planning could take 10 years and would likely require coordination with multiple agencies, and that some protective panels would be insufficient on their own. He requested board support and that Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill assist on the initiative; the board authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to assist as necessary.

The board discussed potential partnerships with county and state entities including the Army Corps of Engineers if funding is available. No formal funding or binding commitment was taken at the meeting; the request was for representation and coordination on planning and resilience concepts.
