CDD files Lee County NPDES annual report; FDEP submission set before Nov. 1 deadline

Johnson Engineering presented the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report, which Lee County approved and will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection ahead of the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline; staff noted potential future changes to sampling requirements and to continue Year 8 operations.
Johnson Engineering reported that the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report has been reviewed and approved by Lee County and will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection before the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline.
"Lee County reviewed and approved the Report and it will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) in advance of the November 1, 2024 deadline," the minutes record. The presenter said the next permit cycle is anticipated in the fall but without a firm issuance date; accordingly, staff will continue compliance into Year 8. Directors and staff discussed that future water sampling requirements could change and that a Johnson Engineering representative attends bi-monthly Lee County NPDES meetings and forwards minutes to the District Manager.
District Manager Chesley "Chuck" Adams observed that stormwater ponds are expected to catch and retain runoff and are not held to the same standards as natural lakes; the board discussed the potential for modified monitoring and reporting requirements in future permit cycles.
