Salem supervisors transfer $8,515 to fund Crabtree sewage feasibility study; study finds pumping capacity available

The Salem Township Board of Supervisors on Oct. 16 approved transferring $8,515 from a Special Projects account to the Sewage Revenue account to cover feasibility-study fees from Morris Knowles for a proposed Crabtree-area sewage expansion.
Supervisor Kerry Jobe said the feasibility study and accompanying PowerPoint are nearly complete and that the current design concepts include potential service to Forbes Road, Coal Hollow, Crabtree and Hannastown, while Totteridge would not be tied in initially. “Everything looks promising but we must review it internally and discuss it with Unity before sharing with the public,” Jobe said.
According to the board discussion, the plan would not build a new sewage plant; instead, flows would be pumped to 14 Mile Run, which the board said is operating at about 30% capacity now. The feasibility study estimates the project would add roughly 22% to that system’s load if the Crabtree area were connected.
Residents asked about timing for public meetings; board members said the study must be reviewed internally and with the receiving utility before a public presentation. The board authorized the transfer by unanimous vote.
