Police chief: department accredited and fully staffed; specialty OT opportunities remain

Chief James Bigelow and Assistant Chief Dan Schultz presented the police department’s annual accomplishments and outstanding objectives during the Jan. 9 strategic planning session.
"The department has been able to accomplish all their 2024 objectives apart from making OT opportunities available through specialties such as Davis Metro Narcotics and SWAT," Bigelow and Schultz reported. They highlighted accreditation with the Utah Chiefs of Police Association, implementation of a uniform vehicle design and, notably, that the department is fully staffed for the first known time in recent history.
City leaders said continued emphasis will be on building specialty overtime opportunities to allow officers to participate in regionally coordinated details; no final funding decisions were made at the session. The presentation was framed as an operational update to inform strategic priorities and budget planning.
