District engineer: stormwater system handled Tropical Storm Debbie but reached capacity; possible drainage connection recommended

Charlie Krebs, district engineer with Hole Montes, reported that the MRI project to replace the Pinehurst valley gutter inlet grates is about 80% complete and that he would confirm the schedule for asphalt patching. He described the stormwater system’s performance after Tropical Storm Debbie: the system flowed unobstructed but reached capacity in some areas after parts of the community received almost 8 inches of rain over two to three days (the roads are designed for roughly 5½ inches over 24 hours).
Mr. Krebs suggested The Club could add a drainage connection to Lake E1-A to bypass pipes and inlets if necessary. A resident raised concerns that standing water after the storm was coming up through a slab and causing mold; Mr. Krebs recalled prior comments that standing water had been ongoing and said he did not believe the stormwater was the singular cause, noting that other units had not reported similar issues. The board asked Mr. Long to comment and requested the item be added to the next agenda for further review.
