The Arcola City Council approved a cost-share agreement to extend water and sewer lines to a property at 5424 Ladonia Street, splitting the cost so that the homeowner pays roughly half of the project and the city covers the remainder.
Officials said the owner's estimated responsibility is $13,489.59 including tap fees, while the city's cost-sharing amount will be $9,739.59 from the enterprise fund. The action followed staff explanation that earlier information given to the resident had been inaccurate; in response, the city agreed to reduce the homeowner's financial burden.
A public commenter who identified himself as Tony Torres thanked the council and said he and his family have lived in the area for decades. "We gratefully thank y'all. Appreciate it," Torres said during public comment.
Council approved the cost-sharing motion by voice vote. Staff characterized the decision as a good-faith effort to correct prior misinformation and to help a resident obtain essential utilities.
