The Arcola City Council voted to approve a resolution authorizing staff to submit a Fort Bend County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application seeking up to $300,000 to address ongoing COVID-19 impacts within the city.
Brazile, the community development coordinator, told council the Fort Bend County program had approximately $1.9 million remaining to allocate and that the window for application was short. The proposed activities include public health education, bilingual outreach, Wi-Fi expansion, distribution of devices, food relief, and wellness programming designed to reach residents citywide; staff said 54.9% of city residents fall into low-to-moderate income categories for the program's eligibility.
"The program will serve all residents within the city limits," Brazile said, explaining the county's priorities for COVID response and infrastructure upgrades. Council approved the resolution by voice vote.
Staff said the $300,000 request is in line with Fort Bend County guidelines and emphasized the application's focus on preventing, preparing and responding to COVID-19 through both services and small-scale infrastructure improvements.
