Salem Township to advertise informational meeting on SALDO fee and definition changes

At the Oct. 2 meeting the Planning Commission agreed to advertise an informational meeting in November to solicit public comment on proposed changes to the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO). Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich told commissioners one provision he wants revised immediately would allow the township to charge solicitor and engineering fees and collect developer escrows tied to applications. He also recommended clearer definitions for minor and major subdivisions, land developments, and side lot additions where sewage facilities planning does not apply.
Commissioner Paul Holleran made the motion to advertise the November informational meeting; John Durco seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The commission indicated completing the two SALDO sections would address recurring issues with incoming developments and make application fee handling fairer to residents and developers alike. A special informational meeting will be scheduled in November; the solicitor and secretary will handle advertisement and notice requirements.
