Planning Commission reviews draft Transportation Master Plan; staff to return in April for public hearing

City staff and J-U-B Engineering presented a draft Transportation Master Plan to the Planning Commission on March 10. Community Development Director Curtis Poole said the plan evaluates the transportation network to identify needed street, intersection and pedestrian improvements and that the document will be appended to the 2019 General Plan. J-U-B traffic engineer Vijay Kornala provided an overview of the methodology and key recommendations; Public Works Director Sam Christiansen noted that several projects are included to meet state reporting requirements (Senate Bill 195) but that inclusion in the plan does not guarantee funding or implementation.
Commissioners were asked to review the draft and bring comments to the first Planning Commission meeting in April; staff and J-U-B will return to take commissioner input and hold a public hearing. Sam Christiansen said, as presented, "the city needed a plan in place to be able to move forward to be able to ask for funding." Chairman Joe Rupp and commissioners discussed that the plan can be adjusted if funding or other circumstances change.
