Salem Township approves UPMC renewal and $35,000 fire tax contributions to two volunteer departments

Salem Township supervisors voted Sept. 18 to renew the township’s UPMC Health Plan and to disburse several fire‑service funding payments to area volunteer fire departments.
The board approved a UPMC Health Plan contract renewal effective Oct. 30, 2024; the motion cites an 8.4% premium increase from a current monthly premium of $12,174.07 to an estimated $13,199.96. The board also authorized annual Fire Tax contributions of $35,000 each to the Slickville Volunteer Fire Department and the Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition, the supervisors approved distributions of locally collected Earned Income Tax (LST) and Commonwealth state aid: 25% of 2023 LST collections totaling $33,923.75 (each department receiving $16,961.87) and Commonwealth state aid totaling $41,015.61 (each department receiving $20,507.80). All funding motions passed unanimously.
