Planning Commission approves American Tires conditional use permit; owner told to seek separate business license for second operation

The Woods Cross Planning Commission on March 10 approved a conditional use permit for American Tires to operate an auto repair business at 1901 West 2425 South, Suite M, focused on semi-tractor repair for FedEx. Code Officer Leah Seawright told commissioners the business would contain all activities within the building, no outside storage is anticipated, hours would be 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., and the unit provides three designated parking spaces; staff said that meets the city’s 1 space per 800 square feet requirement for the unit.

Applicant Arif Obic told the commission he plans to grow into a larger space in the coming months and asked whether a second, related business called Interstate Service would require separate approvals. Mr. Obic "said he is opening this tire business." Community Development Director Curtis Poole said the conditional use covers both uses because they are vehicle maintenance but that the owner will need a separate business license for a second company. Commissioner David Lewis moved to approve the conditional use permit subject to standard licensing, fire inspection if required, compliance with governmental jurisdictions, and protection of adjacent properties; Commissioner Jake Hennessy seconded and the motion passed unanimously among members present.
