Windrow residents press New Berlin to address abandoned homes and health risks

Residents of the Windrow Subdivision told the Village of New Berlin Board on May 21, 2025 that abandoned properties at 60 and 70 Frank Street and 56 Bourbaki Avenue pose health and safety concerns, including raccoons entering structures and water collecting on site.
"Residents were asked to take pictures of raccoons entering one of the properties," the meeting record shows. Village Attorney Jason Brokaw outlined steps the Village has taken to remediate the properties, saying several have been taken over by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Village is pursuing processes to obtain title where appropriate.
Board members did not vote on a remedy at the meeting but discussed documentation and next steps. The public comment prompted a request for residents to gather photographic evidence of animal intrusion and standing water to support legal and abatement actions.
The matter will remain under follow-up by the Village Attorney’s office; no formal directive or funding allocation was recorded during the regular session.
