The Planning Commission voted on Aug. 10 to approve building elevations for Jenny's Splendid Ice Cream at 232 City Circle at The Avenues.
Staff presented the proposal showing a repaint to 'snowfall white' with 'tricorn black' accents, a proposed 'obstinate orange' accent for the sign (sign permitting is separate), and colorful striped awnings. The application also includes new sconces to highlight the sign area, umbrella‑type canopies under an existing pergola and a proposed Ferrari vinyl fabric for the awnings; staff said the materials and design are consistent with the 2020 updates to the Highway 54 design guidelines.
Applicant Missy Moon, who identified herself as one of the owners of the Jenny's location, said, "We're just very excited to, so we we actually formally, own Super Chicks at the Avenues. We operated it for 6 years and just really thrilled to be back with Jenny's." Commissioners broadly praised the look: one commissioner called the elevation "sharp," another said the awning stripe colors add a playful quality even while noting a personal preference against them.
Commissioner Chris Cruz moved to approve the elevations "as presented" and a colleague seconded; the commission voted verbally in favor and the chair announced approval. Staff noted that signage itself requires a separate permit and the applicant will pursue that process independently.
