Salem Township to solicit bids for traffic-signal upgrades on Route 22, residents asked for studies

Responding to resident complaints about speeding on State Route 22, the Salem Township Board voted to advertise solicitations for safety upgrades to six signalized intersections on Rt 22 and a flashing school-zone device on State Route 119.
Supervisor Bob Zundel told the board "we are getting calls from residents with complaints of speeding on Rt 22," and supervisors approved placing the safety upgrades out for bid. Corporal Parsley of the Kiski Barracks reported that crime in the township is down and that a trooper spends considerable time patrolling Rt 22, and he noted the police use drones in crime-scene work while being mindful of privacy concerns.
The board's vote authorizes the township to solicit bids and later evaluate proposals; no contract award was made at the Nov. 20 meeting. The move follows repeated resident requests for traffic studies and indicates staff will proceed with procurement to identify engineering and construction costs prior to any construction authorization.
