The Greer City Council presented a certificate of appreciation to Jim Young on Aug. 11, 2026, recognizing six years of service to the city of Greer from 06/30/2020 to 06/30/2026. Mayor (presiding officer) praised Young’s leadership at the municipal golf course and thanked him and the accompanying staff for their efforts.
Jim Young accepted the award and told council, “Again, I thank you,” and praised the team that supported him: “Whether it's Mister Merriman and Miss Cunningham, Mister Watson, Mister Merrill, Mister Thompson… all of them did something very special to help me pull this thing off.” The mayor closed the presentation by inviting family to a post-meeting dinner courtesy of Bill Harrell.
The recognition was ceremonial; no council action was required. The council moved on to the regular agenda after the remarks.
