GM reports grant opportunities, lab partnership and a blocked $100,000 fraud attempt

General Manager Weigel told the board that legislative and agency visits yielded an improved understanding of available EPA and state grant or low‑interest loan programs, some of which may include forgivable components. He said staff and consultant Rojas will pursue several applications tailored to individual projects.
Weigel also reported operational updates: Summerlin Sanitary District operators visited for a plant tour and staff are pursuing a lab services arrangement; the district regained on-site notary services; and IT safeguards caught a fraudulent payment request for nearly $100,000. "We caught our 1st fraudulent attempt to seek payment of almost a $100,000 to the district," Weigel said, and credited multilayer checks and recent IT controls for stopping it. Staff said outreach and the rate‑study timetable remain priorities as the district prepares Prop 218 notices and community mailers.
