Kerry Jobe reported on a feasibility study prepared by UTMA and engineering firm LSSE, with participation from the township engineer, to evaluate bringing public sewer to parts of Salem Township (Forbes Road, Coal Hollow, Hannastown, Totteridge, Crabtree) and some neighboring areas in Unity and Hempfield townships.
The study modeled five build options; board materials noted Option 4 would be a full build-out and that the project is not financially feasible without securing about $18 million in grant funding (a 50% grant match in the study). With that level of grant support the analysis estimated an average monthly sewer bill of about $90 for customers served. A joint meeting with UTMA, Salem and Hempfield is scheduled for Jan. 23, 2025 to continue planning.
