Community Development director outlines fee changes to make department self-sustaining

Chris Presetti, the community development director, summarized a multi-month review of building and planning fees and said the proposed changes will move the department toward the midpoint of neighboring jurisdictions while complying with statute: "So, yes, we are rolling out a new software, for the department here. Our tentative goal right now is to become September to begin September for that software," Presetti said. He explained the adjustment is intended to cover costs without turning the permit function into a revenue-generating enterprise.
Council members and residents asked questions about the last comprehensive review, the effect on related departments and whether the senior center was included; staff clarified the resolution applies only to the community development department (formerly the building department). Presetti said the planning commission recommended changes and the city will monitor trends and adjust the schedule as needed.
