The Boulder City Council voted to discontinue paying the city’s own water and sewer bills out of the general fund, a practice the clerk said cost about $1,000 per month.
City Clerk/Treasurer Rosemary Perna presented examples of the bills and told council the practice moves money from the general fund into the water (5210) and sewer (5310) funds. Perna said auditors and the city attorney had reviewed the approach and indicated it was acceptable to discontinue the practice; she added that meter usage tracking would continue. On a motion by Drew Dawson and second by Mike Taylor, the council approved discontinuing the automatic payments; the motion carried with three aye votes. Dawson framed the change as freeing general fund dollars for other uses such as the fire department.
