The council voted to allow resident Lauren Donhower to host a weekly public meditation circle at the city-owned Jasper Labyrinth beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 8:30 a.m. Donhower said sessions would be short (15–20 minutes), free and open to all ages.
"My proposal is to have a weekly, meditation circle open to the public, to start in 2 weeks on the 25th, 08:30AM," Donhower told the council, saying she planned to post information on social media and use flyers to notify residents. She said she had prepared a release clarifying that the gatherings are not medical or mental-health treatment and that the city would be released from liability for participants.
Council members asked how participants would be informed and whether the park department should be aware of attendance levels. The council approved a motion to allow recurring Tuesday gatherings for the remainder of the year, and asked Donhower to return in a few months if she plans to expand the schedule.
